Somaliland celebrated International Cheetah Day for the first time on December 4, 2025. The Cheetah Conservation Fund, with the help of the Somaliland Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, organised this event, which was held at the CCF Conservation and Training Centre in Geedeble Village, Somaliland. During the commemoration, CCF officially launched a community training centre which will contribute to the livelihood of the surrounding communities at CCF-managed conservations. The centre will also help to reduce the common challenges that wildlife confront from human beings. Officials from the Somaliland Government included senior ministers such as the ministers of environment and climate change, trade and tourism, education and livestock. Furthermore, members from SACSO and other key figures in the community attended the event.
Dr Laura, the CCF Director, and her General Manager presented the importance of this event and the achievements made by CCF since its establishment in Somaliland, including the establishment of the Cheetah safe house and the conservation and community training centre at Geedeble village. CCF currently manages 126 cheetah animals freed from animal traffickers with the help of Somaliland authorities. Finally, the commemoration ended successfully, with more promises from the different ministers
